OWH Sketch Challenge #157

This week's Operation Write Home's Sketch Challenge #157 had several layers.  I went back to using the cricut for these cards.  I'm sure I'll try coloring again soon.
I couldn't decide to go cute or not, so I have two very different cards.

This first card was inspired by K & Company's Designer Papers - Ancestry.  I just love the paper.  I used it to make a Scrapbook for my Grandmother's 95th Birthday last fall and have been using the paper ever since.  (Had to buy another stack since I liked it so much!)

I tried antiquing the cross with ink on a kleenex, but it's kinda uneven.  I need to watch a tutorial on that.. Maybe inking the edges of the pink solid paper in the middle would look better as well...

Then I was in the mood for something cute...

These cuts were FREE on Cricut Craftroom this week!! Nothing like getting something free to make me happy!  The tag is from Stretch Your Imagination.  The patterned paper is Recollections. I thought about dry embossing the white or scalloped oval, but liked the simplicity of the bold colors the way they were.  Maybe I'll make some that way this week.

OWH Midweek Throwdown and Our Daily Bread Designs

This week's Operation Write Home's Midweek Throwdown had an Easter Theme. I had several ideas floating around, but ended up making this:

The Easter card cut if from Spring Holiday Cards and the eggs are from Doodlecharms.  The solid colored papers are Michaels Recollections, and the other paper were left overs from other stacks.

I'm hoping to make more Easter cards in the near future!


While I was doing the Easter card, I finished up a card I started for the
Our Daily Bread Design January Challenge which was to use several dry embossed cuts.  This is my version:

I wanted to try using only pink, but I had to add some green to break it up a bit.

OWH Sketch Challenge #156

I love how this week's Operation Write Home sketch challenge #156 was so inspirational to me!  I've been seeing a TON of colored images on OWH and being a cricut gal, I've never ventured.  But I FELL IN LOVE with Linda L's card from the Show Us Your Green challenge I HAD TO try it...  She found this cute little angel image free on Whimsie Doodle and it was all over for me.

I tried coloring this image 5 times.  I printed it on regular card stock and first used coloring pencils and then  FibraColor markers.  The colored pencils showed the texture of the paper, so I didn't like that. And the markers bled some odd way... So off to Michaels to see what I could do.  Copic markers were a little too pricey for a not so sure commitment ... and after being there some time I decided to try using Canson Marker Bright White paper.  It is perfect for markers and pencils.  50 sheets for about $5 with my 40% coupon!  I was pleased with the outcome this time.  The paper is very thin, so I should mount it on white paper before adding another layer next time.

Isn't she cute?  The paper is Bazzill Basics Red Devil and the stamp is Michael's craft smart for $1. 

I'm thinking my daughter's Crayola coloring pencils aren't going to make it much longer...  Perhaps some other coloring pencils will work better... Not sure which kind...

Bazzill Basics Card Swap

Today is my Birthday!! So nice to have the kids home to play with me and to share my day with MLK!  Over the weekend, I made these cards for Bazzill Basics Valentine Card Swap!  I made two sets, This was the first set of cards I made:

The paper is from Bazzill's Red Devil 6 x 6 stack.  The cut is from Cricut's A Child's Year, and the embossing is Cuttlebug's Demask set.  The stamp is a dollar store acrylic.

The second set of cards I made are based on a sketch from Operation Write Home:

Cutting the paper evenly was the biggest challenge.  I think the blade is going on my cutter!  The heart is from Cricut,s A Child's Year, and the words are from Cricut's stamping cartridge.  

I wonder what I will get from others!

Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown - Greeen

For this week's Operation Write Home Midweek Throw Down - Green challenge I used Cricut's Boys Will Be Boys cartridge.  I love the card, besides the eyes.  I need to work on making my eyes better.The shiny printed paper is a DCWV All About Boys short stack.  The stamp is from Hero Arts.  Thanks for looking.

Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge # 155

This weeks Operation Write Home Sketch Challenge #155 took a while to make since my poor craft room flooded over the weekend!  We just bought our house in August, so we are in shock.  I had to pack up all my goodies :( but managed to stash enough stuff in the dining room to make some cards.  Cards must be made, no matter what!  We just found black mold hiding behind the wall, so I better get comfortable in my new place while we remove and rebuild the basement.

I had a hard time deciding on what colors to incorporate into this challenge.  I love the cute print I used, unfortunately it was a loose piece I had picked up along the way at Michaels, so it didn't have coordinating colors...  This is what I came up with.

I used  Ashlyn's Alphabet on the cricut for the ovals, and Juli's Garden Cuttlebug folder for the embossing.  Thanks for looking.

OWH - hits 2 MILLION cards!!

Operation Write Home has hit the 2Million card milestone!  It's just wonderful how everyone works together to keep this organization running.  Sandy, you are amazing!! And the rest of your team is great.

OWH - Challenge - no sentiment

This weeks Operation Write Home Challenge -sentiment-free/ card(s) were made with children in mind.  I originally wanted to go with a classic cream and brown simple card, but decided since they are for kids, they should have color! I don't know if you can see it, but the orange and green cuts are embossed with various Sizzix plates.  I didn't do much embellishment because I'm not sure what to do... So some suggestions please...  One note to consider -  NO GLITTER - it will compromise the troops' safety.

This picture was originally a woman, but I trimmed the hair to make it look like a man.  I think it could be either way, but my hubby likes to toss the kids up into the air more than I do, so I did it with him in mind.

 These girls are cute!

 For the Fairy Princess, or someone who is loosing teeth - lol!

OWH Midweek throwdown - Spring Flowers

Hello!  This is my first Challenge!  It's OWH midweek throwdown featuring Spring Flowers.  I made two cards because the first card I made didn't look quite like flowers after I created it, so I made another one.

The first card I made with the Cricut and Big Shot (my Christmas Gift).  The embossing folder is Cuttlebug's Baby's Breath

The second card I made with an INKADINKADO stamp and the Big Shot with the same embossing folder.  This is my first time using stamps and coloring (I'm more of a cricut gal), so please give me some good feedback.
